Chairman’s Message

Dear Walkers

Chairman’s MessageDear Walkers,Another very full programme for the summer, thanks to John Sim and the Walks Committee, and to everyone who submits walks. We are able to provide such a varied programme because few leaders claim expenses for pre-walking routes. Unfortunately however, we still need to cut costs, so have agreed to put a cap of 100 miles per round trip on claims. Since our last programme, we have had an excellent Photo Competition and Quiz Night, organised by our Social Committee, and Annette Dix organised a wonderful Easter Break in Alfriston, where we had lovely weather, and the walking was perfect. Well done Annette. On 17th & 18th July, the Derbyshire village of Winster has an Open Gardens Event. John is providing a morning walk, then we plan to visit the gardens during the afternoon. Some members are staying in the area overnight, in order to do Karen’s Sunday walk. You will see that we have 2 Memorial Walks on the programme, on August 22nd & 28th, led by Coalville Ramblers, which are open to all Leicestershire members. The Leicestershire Walking Festival is from 4th – 11th September. We have 3 walks on the programme, so we may gain some extra walkers. Now- something to think about before our AGM in November. Barbara Elliston, who has been our very efficient Group Secretary for many years, is standing down, so we need a replacement. If you are interested, do contact Barbara, or any committee member, to find out what is involved. Also, if any budding newspaper reporter would like to take over publicity, writing up our Sunday walks for the Hinckley Times and the website, I will be delighted to talk to you !Finally, a very big thank you to everyone for your continued support, and for helping to make Hinckley Ramblers such a successful organisation..Wendy Martin - Chairman. (wendytmartin@tiscali.co.uk

Meeting Place- This is normally the Brunel Road Car Park Hinckley for Sunday walks unless otherwise stated. Saturday afternoon walk venues are printed on the programme.  please contact the leader if you wish to arrange a lift.
Transport-Our group encourages car sharing and walkers usually meet at Brunel Road. Drivers appreciate it when passengers make a voluntary contribution. It is suggested that .25pence per mile shared between the occupants of the car will reasonably cover the cost Incurred by the driver
Walks Information-All mileages shown are approximate. Some walks are graded A to indicate the degree of difficulty-Strenuous hill walking/difficult terrain will be encountered.
Clothing-Walking Boots are highly recommended. Be prepared for bad weather.
Lunch Arrangements-Walkers should bring a packed lunch and drink for the full day walk. It is sometimes possible to call at a pub, but this is not guaranteed.
Safety-Please co-operate with the Walk Leader and respect their decisions. Extra care should be taken when walking along or crossing roads.
Dogs-It is regretted that dogs are not permitted on walks due to problems with stiles and farm livestock.

.Accidents-Any accident occurring on a walk, which requires a visit to a doctor or hospital, should be reported to the secretary or a committee member.
Mobile Phones-Please be discreet in the use of mobile phones
Non Members-Visitors are very welcome to join the group for  three walks. After this, they are expected to join the Ramblers Association.
Deposits-Deposits for Coach/Rail walks, Holiday weekends and other Social Events are not refundable.
Map Library-Maps are available from Jeff Smith (848551) for members use. Please ensure they are returned promptly.
R.A.Subscriptions-Current charges can be obtained from the Membership Secretary.
Mid Week Walks-Midweek walks are arranged informally usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact Jeff Smith for more details.
Pub Stops-Please cover muddy boots with bags or take them off. Do not consume your own food on pub premises without checking first.
Discounts-Most outdoor shops offer a 10% discount on production of a valid Ramblers Association card.
Leaders-Please appoint a back marker at the start of a walk; report any stile or footpath problems to the Footpath Secretary.
